Ba Zi (Eight Characters) or Four Pillars of Destiny as it is popular known in the West, is a sophisticated art of Chinese fortune-telling based largely on the Chinese five-element theory, allowing us to investigate the potential and mysterious of our lives using our birth data. BaZi calculation enable us to explore the cyclical influence of our 'destiny' in terms important areas such as family, friends, relationships, wealth, fame, recognition, career, studies, partnership, business and the almost every other important aspect of our lives. BaZi can be used to evaluate relationships and to forecast the life path of each individual. BaZi translates our birth data - Year , Month , Day and Hour of birth into four pairs of distinct Chinese Characters (called Jia Zi). Four pairs make Eight Characters (or BaZi). Each pair is also known as a pillar, hence the term Four Pillars. The eight characters are made up of the yin and yang variations of the Five Elements . By analyzing the structure, compatibility, clashes, combinations and inter-relations of these eight characters, we can learn much about our nature and our life path. An individual can make use of this information to accelerate his performance in work, strengthen his or her relationships with others, improve weaknesses, maximize talents and potentials, and make informed decisions based on forecasts of his or her upcoming cycle of luck. Understanding our BaZi (our Eight Characters) helps us deal with uncertainties and allows us to understand our strengths and weaknesses in life. Understanding of BaZi is also needed to perform proper Feng Shui prescriptions or remedies. Factors such as luck are often indomitable and not within our grasp. BaZi analysis is designed to help us understand the cycles of luck and possibly understand how it influences our lives. BaZi helps us make informed decisions in life. Man is always fascinated by the great mysterious of life. Often, we wonder what our purpose in this world is. How can we perform better? For centuries the Chinese have accumulated much knowledge to study these great questions in search of answers. By studying the interaction between Man, the environment, time and the Universe (often called Heaven), a pattern is discovered. This pattern represents the cyclical influence of the energies in the Universe imprinted on us during the time of our birth. This information is encrypted in the form of Eight Characters (BaZi). Thus the study and practice of BaZi calculation, is to allow us to decrypt this information and our destiny can be revealed. The Ba Zi method of fortune telling started during the Tang Dynasty (618 – 907 A.D.) when one of the emperor’s master astrologers Lee Shi Chong wrote the Ba Zi method of fortune telling. His method was so accurate in forecasting one’s fate that the emperor banned the practice of this form of fortune telling for the common people for fear that his enemies may use it against him. Imagine if the enemies knew the emperor’s Ba Zi Life Chart and Luck Cycles, they would strike at the emperor’s time of unlucky cycles. Because of the ban, only a few of the master astrologers of the emperor were masters of this art. During the Sung Dynasty, master astrologer Shi Zi Bing edited and rewrote the book and his method of fortune telling, which is also known as Zi Bing Ba Zi fortune telling, is what most practitioners are using today. The distinct difference of his method as compared to the Lee Shi Chong’s method is that Zi Bing method based most of the forecast and emphasis on the day of birth while Lee emphasised mostly on the year of birth. The Zi Bing’s method has proven with the test of time to give a more accurate and detail forecast and thus is now widely practiced by the practitioners worldwide.
